Sorbact® Fungi is a modern and simple alternative to creams and ointments

Under certain conditions, fungal skin infections can develop in moist areas, such as the skin folds of the stomach, under the breasts and between the fingers and toes. Symptoms of fungal infections include severe redness, flaking, itching and blisters. Sometimes infections are associated with a bad odor from the infected area. Sorbact® offers a solution for easy treatment of fungal infection in skin folds.

Background and symptoms

Fungal infections in skin folds generally affect people who are overweight, people with compromised immune systems (in the case of diabetes for example) and women with large breasts. The infection is also known as Candida infection and is more likely to appear in warm, humid environments. As a result, infants and people working in warm, humid conditions could also be affected.

The most common symptoms are itching, blistering or cracks in the skin. The symptoms occur in large skin folds, in female genitals, and under the breasts. It is not uncommon for the infection to have the appearance of eczema with flaking skin. There may also be an unpleasant smell in the infected area.

The most common symptoms

  • Itching
  • Red rash
  • Eczema-like skin changes
  • Unpleasant smell

Cause

Fungi in skin folds are caused by the yeast fungus Candida albicans, which occurs naturally in the intestines and mucous membrane of all humans. In areas of skin that are particularly warm and moist, the fungus can spread and cause itchy, stinging rashes, blisters and cracked skin.

The fungus often attacks areas where the skin comes into contact with other skin. Common areas are under suspended breasts, in abdominal folds, and in the armpits or groin. Fungal infections can be extremely unpleasant and give off an unpleasant smell. The affected areas could be difficult to treat.

Is it a Candida infection?

  • A yeast infection causes a rash with a very distinctive appearance.
  • If you are not sure, you should allow a healthcare professional to make a diagnosis.

Treatment

Preventive treatment

There are several ways to prevent fungal infections. Good hygiene and washing regularly are basic. It is important to dry all skin folds. If you are frequently in a humid environment or work in a warm, humid place, you should wear clothes and shoes made of material that help to transport moisture away from the skin.

Sorbact® Fungi for treatment of fungal outbreaks

Sorbact® Technology is an effective and well-documented method for treating fungal outbreaks in skin folds. The method is based on a natural process where the fungi bind to the surface of the dressing.

Instructions for use

Wash the area with soap and water and dry thoroughly. Cut the dressing to desired length and place directly on the infected area. Keep in place with a bra, briefs, panties or skin-friendly tape attached to healthy skin.
Daily dressing change in conjunction with regular hygiene is recommended. Treatment time is normally 7-10 days. Continue to use the dressing for 2-3 days after the symptoms have resolved to avoid recurrence. Caution!
Do not use together with ointments or creams.

Prevent fungal infection

  • Avoid warm and humid environments
  • Wear loose-fitting clothes and shoes, ideally made of material that transports the moisture away from the body.
  • Maintain good general hygiene.
